The miracle that is: Vegan "Cheese" recipes + Cheesitz

The fabulous people from sent us some gluten-free flours to experiment with. We love! In our opinion, they have the best value, the fastest shipping and the most selection when it comes to online bulk health food. We've never received anything from them that wasn't fresh or sketchy, just consistently good quality products. They even ship to Canada and for a reasonable price as well.

One of our favourite flours to bake with is chickpea flour, with buckwheat flour coming in a close second. Chickpea flour has this certain taste that lends itself well to cheese-like flavours.

We've never actually tried actual Cheesitz, and were never huge fans of cheesy snacks. But ever since changing our diets we've found miraculous ways to replicate the cheez flavour, and we mean miraculous! We don't mean just adding nutritional yeast here and there and voila, cheese, there are a myriad of ingredients you can put together to mimic cheez in all its salty, pungent glory (would you say cheese is pungent? hmm don't know if that's the right adjective)...Anyways! Check out these "cheezy" recipes that we've done in the past:

...and now welcome the newest member of the sketch-free "cheez" recipe family:

Organic Brown Rice Flour, and Chickpea Flour courtesy of

1/4 cup chick pea flour
1/2 cup brown rice flour
2 tbsp nutritional yeast flakes
1 1/2 tbsp safflower oil
1/2 tbsp miso paste
Pinch of salt
Water to form dough

Combine dry ingredients together in a medium bowl, then add in oil, miso paste and water until a rollable dough forms. Place dough on a sheet of parchment paper and place a sheet of plastic wrap on top. Start rolling out with a rolling pin very thin. (I should have rolled these thinner, for a crispier crunch, because some parts were chewy). Score with a knife and poke holes in each square with a fork. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
